Local Law Enforcement
Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they stated.
Police then located multiple other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police state early analysis indicate the fluid was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; investigators are currently not informed of any injuries in relation with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the residents for details.
A senior official said the incident left him without words and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he posted on social media, recalling the death of nine people by a gunman focusing on residents of migrant background in five years prior.
