Larian Studios Announce a Latest Divinity, Calling it Their Most Ambitious RPG Yet

The speculation around this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The question has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer featuring intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.

Not the Expected Sequel

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio clarified that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This choice of words suggests that the team could be designing a faster-paced experience instead of another turn-based title. For now, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is widely praised and it's fair to claim it sparked the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—traits that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.

Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities only possible by choosing a specific type of character with a personal story.

The series is also notoriously permissive, allowing players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be solved in multiple ways, frequently in surprising fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you recalled something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a inventive way.

The Journey Continues

It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, players can look forward to more where that came from in this groundbreaking franchise.
